TL;DR: Some Monogram indicators are features, not faults - tC/tF are Turbo Cool/Freeze, and the Sabbath symbol is a mode. Alerts like CC, FF, PF, CI, and dE flag conditions to check. Note the exact code before assuming a fault.

Learning to read monogram display codes tells you when a panel message means take action and when it is simply a feature doing its job. Monogram refrigeration and cooking displays mix mode indicators with genuine alerts, so knowing the difference saves an unnecessary service call.

Indicators that are features, not faults

  • tC / tF – Turbo Cool and Turbo Freeze are active boosts, not faults.
  • Sabbath symbol – a special operating mode, not an error.
  • Delay codes (1H, 2H) on a dishwasher – Delay Start is running.

Alerts worth checking

  • CC – temperature controls read incorrect.
  • FF – the compartment is rising; food may be at risk.
  • PF – a power interruption occurred; press to clear.
  • CI – check the icemaker.
  • dE – a defrost-system fault was logged.

What to do first

  1. Note the exact code or symbol shown.
  2. For PF or a feature indicator, clear it or let the cycle finish.
  3. For CC, FF, CI, or dE, run the relevant checks before assuming hardware.

For the full refrigeration set, see our refrigerator error code archive. If a temperature alert appears, pair it with the temperature fluctuations guide.

When a code means service

A dE defrost fault, a persistent CC or FF with correct settings, or any cooking F-code points to a real fault. Our service team can diagnose it – book a visit. The code set for your model is on the manufacturer’s site, monogram.com.

Making Sense of What the Display Tells You

Reading Monogram display codes correctly is the single most useful skill for an owner, because the panel and the SmartHQ app use short codes that fall into two very different groups: feature indicators that mean the appliance is doing something on purpose, and fault codes that ask you to take action. Confusing the two leads people to call for service when no repair is needed, or to ignore a warning that matters.

Feature Indicators — Not Faults

  • tC — Turbo Cool is active, rapidly chilling the fresh-food compartment. Normal after loading groceries.
  • tF — Turbo Freeze is active, driving the freezer below its 0°F setpoint for a set time. Also normal and temporary.

Fault Codes That Ask for Action

  1. PF — power was interrupted. Press to clear, then allow time for temperatures to recover. No part needed.
  2. CI — check the icemaker. Investigate water supply, freezer temperature, and the bin before assuming a failed part.
  3. FF — the temperature has risen. Check the food first, then suspect the compressor, defrost system, or sensor.
  4. CC — check the temperature controls; the temperatures are reading incorrectly.
  5. dE — a defrost system fault was detected in the last 24 hours, pointing to the defrost heater, thermostat, or sensor.
  6. DE — demo or showroom mode, with cooling off but lights on. Clear it by unplugging the unit for one to two minutes.

Why the Capitalization Matters

Notice that dE and DE look almost identical but mean opposite things: lowercase dE is a real defrost fault that may need a certified technician, while uppercase DE is simply showroom mode you can clear yourself. This is exactly why reading Monogram display codes carefully, rather than glancing at them, prevents both unnecessary service calls and overlooked problems.

As a rule, treat tC and tF as confirmation the appliance is working, clear PF and DE yourself, investigate CI before acting, and call for help on persistent FF, CC, or dE codes, where genuine Monogram parts and proper metering are usually involved.

Logging codes for a faster repair

When a fault code appears, note exactly what it was and when, since SmartHQ keeps an event history a technician can reference to confirm the configuration and bring the right genuine part on the first trip.
